Helping the Community
Community Room Restoration
In the past, money earned from Christmas Gifts Galore has been used to make improvements to the Historical Society’s comunity room located on the Berryville square. The club has painted the room, laid new flooring, purchased a hot water heater and, with the help of Carroll County JP’s, installed a ramp making the second story room accessible for those in wheel chairs.
Cooking Classes
The very first class we taught was for the Drug Court participants. With the money made at the first Christmas Gifts Galore we were able to give them a hands on lesson in preparing a complete holiday meal. We were able to play some games and talk about different traditions. At the end of the day all of the participants took home a box with everything they needed to recreate the meal at home with their families. The whole day was a big success in terms of learning but more so in terms of self confidence. There were some touching stories that we hope to eventually share with you.
There have been a few other cooking classes taught in the following years and the Country Chicks have enjoyed all of the time that was spent getting to know the people who attended.
The Perseverance Pays Scholarship
In 2023, we used the Christmas Gifts Galore funds to provide a $500 scholarship to one graduating senior from a Carroll County school district. In 2024, we awarded a $500 scholarship to one student from each of the two schools that entered nominations. This year we awarded 3 $500 scholarships. Two of them went to graduating seniors from Green Forest High School and one was awarded to a graduating senior from Berryville High School. The Carroll County Country Chicks are grateful to the community for supporting our club through Christmas Gifts Galore and direct donations This year we hope to raise enough money to give a larger scholarship to a student from each of the Carroll County High Schools. If you would like to donate to the scholarship a check can be made out to CCCC EHC and mailed to 909B Freeman Switch Road, Berryville, AR 72616 or we accept PayPal
The Country Chicks believe that students who don’t test well can still be hard workers and are equipped with the perseverance and work ethic that it takes to succeed in college or a trade school. We believe that they can even do better than some of their peers for who good grades come easily and tests are a breeze. These students have had to work hard for the grades that they receive and are better prepared for college or trade school because of their work ethic. We believe that kind of perseverance should be rewarded.
Teachers and Counselors at any Carroll County school district are invited to nominate any graduating student they think would benefit from this scholarship. It is our hope that we can get enough donations to increase the scholarships and really make a difference for these well deserving students.
If you are interested in joining the Carroll County EHC Country Chicks please call the Carroll County Extension Office at 870-423-2958. We meet the second Monday of every month.
